As I walked into the local corner shop Lenny greeted me as he opened the door as I entered into the coffee shop. As we began to small talk Lenny told me that he liked my camera and asked was I shooting landscapes of Boston. I gave him a quick rundown of what I was doing, and he said well I’m your man! He began to speak about his family lineage of soldiers who served. He started with his great grandpa who served in WWI from 1916- 1918. At this point I told Lenny I needed to write this down. Then he went on to his grandpappy as he called him who served in the Pacific Islands during WWII and then on to his father who served during Vietnam. Then he said me who served in Desert Shield & Storm. I said Lenny you should write a book on all of that rich history. He said that my father made sure I never forgot where I came from. He said that his history went deep and as I began to think of this service during all of these major wars here stands a man opening and closing the doors in the bitter cold all to earn a free sandwich and a warm cup of coco. Lenny said I may not have any formal education, but I learned hospitality while serving as a cook in the Air Force, so I enjoy greeting people and making them smile.
