In the heart of Manhattan NYC focused on their own destinations and their coffees in hand I stood and watched before I asked Jeremy his story. He held a sign asking for help. I asked what branch and he replied Army Ft Hood Texas. In a northern accent he said infantry 11 bang bang! (11bravo) before I asked anymore questions, he thanked me for just speaking to him. He said you can count on one hand how many people who walk past you don’t bother to speak. He said that I know I’m dirty and I smell but I’m still a person. As we chatted with that thousands walking past us, he told me that he deployed to Afghanistan during 2010. When he got out, he said I sure wasn’t about to be a “cop”. He said its work but not for me. Then after chatting for a few minutes he told me no disrespect, but he had to get back to earning money.
